Kia Appoints Head of India Operations

Kia, like all automakers, is constantly updating and expanding its business. This expansion, and growing of the company, often involves expanding into new markets. Kia is currently lining up an expansion into India. The company currently does not have a manufacturing facility in India. However, Kia is on its way to remedying this.

In order for the company to successful establish a presence in India, they needed to appoint a leader with experience and drive. That’s why the company recently named Kookhyun Shim as the Managing Director and CEO of the Kia’s India operations.

Shim is certainly not a stranger to running automotive manufacturing products. He has over 30 years of experience in the field, and having held high-ranking positions in the company before, he is highly qualified for the job. One such responsibility he had was running Kia’s production in Slovakia.

Shim’s prior experience will be invaluable as the company invests in the South Asian . The country is one of the biggest auto markets in the world, so a successful, long-lasting relationship is imperative. Kia has decided to invest heavily in the country, with the final sum rising well over $1 billion.

In a quote from Business Standard, Kia Motors Corporation President Han-Woo Park said, “We recognize India as a major market with huge potential for our world-class cars. We are confident that Shim’s leadership will provide the direction we need to grow our presence in what is one of the world’s biggest new car markets.”

While the manufacturing facility in India is not yet complete, it is set to be highly successful under the watchful eye of its new Managing Director and CEO.

2018 Kia Stinger named Car of the Year Finalist

Kia Stinger a Car of the Year Finalist

When you think of what would make a Car of the Year, do you picture a Kia? Even if you haven’t driven their vehicles, you’ve likely heard a lot about them. If you’ve seen the company’s commercials, you are familiar with the Kia hamsters. These critters are fun, exciting, and stylish; just like Kia’s vehicles. This is the image that Kia has gone with for years. However, their newest addition may change this.

A Sporty New Direction

While definitely still a Kia vehicle, the Kia Stinger looks quite a bit different from its companions in the Kia fleet. This is apparent at a first glance. While the Stinger retains significant Kia design elements, it is first and foremost a sports sedan. This is relatively uncharted territory for Kia. However, the company seems to be navigating the different field quite well, and response to the Stinger’s design has been positive.

Car of the Year?

This divergent vehicle has also gained Kia its first ever finalist position for the North American Car of the Year award. The announcement came at the end of November, when it was revealed that the Kia Stinger has a good chance of winning the 2018 North American Car of the Year award.

This has been a dream for the company for quite some time. In the 23 years that the award has been given, the company has never had a vehicle reach the final three. The Stinger started as a concept vehicle years ago, and now here it is reaching prominent spotlight. It remains to be seen if the vehicle will take home the top award; regardless, this an accomplishment for both Kia and the Stinger. In any case, the Kia Stinger is sure to introduce the brand to an all new audience that will soon see the automaker in a whole new light.
