Road Trip with the Kia Sportage

Preparing for a Road Trip

It has become increasingly popular for people of all ages to take road trips instead of flying to their preferred vacation destinations. Summer brings out the adventurer in many, and they may be tempted to make hasty decisions, resulting in a spontaneous road trip with very little planning. Spontaneous or not, there are a few things that every person embarking on a road trip should plan to bring with them. Without these key items, a road trip may be doomed from the start.

The most important thing is to pack the essentials, and only the essentials. Space is very precious on a road trip, and every inch matters. Some vehicles that would make exceptional road trip partners are the KIA Niro and Sportage. With plenty of room and good gas mileage, they are very good choices for travelers.

Despite traveling during very warm weather (if traveling during the summer) it is very important that at least one cold weather outfit be included, in case of an emergency. An emergency is likely the last thing on a person’s mind when embarking on a road trip. However, it is imperative that emergencies be prepared for, especially when traveling alone.

Emergency Supplies

  • Flashlight
  • Gallon of Water
  • Waterproof matches
  • A few MREs
  • Jumper Cables
  • Candle(s)
  • Knife
  • Road Flare
  • First-Aide Kit

The Essentials

  • Print Map
  • GPS
  • Cell Phone with car & outlet charger
  • Supplies for car (Spare belts, extra coolant and motor oil)
  • Sleeping supplies
  • Toilet paper & Wet Wipes
  • Portable chair & table (if room allows)
  • Adequate food for time on road
  • Money for tolls, vending machines, hotels and restaurants

Likely the biggest part to a successful road trip is communication. While some enjoy going on solo road trips, it is often smarter to go as a group. In the case of an emergency, a group will likely be more successful in combating the issue. When traveling alone, it is important that an emergency line of dependable communication be established. Additionally, periodic check-ins will make for a safer and more enjoyable experience.
