Safety First: Kia Cadenza Receives Top Honors for Driver Assistance Features

This April the 2017 Kia Cadenza was recognized by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, an independent nonprofit scientific and educational organization dedicated to reducing and preventing the injuries that result from automobile accidents.

IIHS chose the sophisticated sedan, with optional front crash prevention and headlights installed, as a Top Safety Pick Plus, their highest honor. While the Cadenza is far from the first Kia to receive this prestigious award, it’s still exciting news. ““The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is one of the most respected organizations in the industry when it comes to evaluating vehicle safety,” said Orth Hedrick, the vice president of product planning for Kia Motors Americas. “This designation is a great achievement that speaks to Kia’s commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.”

Hedrick goes on to note that the Cadenza received good crashworthiness ratings across all categories, an impressive feat that demonstrates Kia’s commitment to the integrity of their products. In fact, in order to be considered for the Top Safety Pick Plus award, a vehicle need to earn positive ratings in five separate tests, including small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side impact, roof strength and gear restraints, as well as an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention and a good or acceptable rating for headlights.

The 2017 Cadenza’s comprehensive suite of driver assistance systems played a major role in this achievement. Features such as Smart Blind Spot Detection, Advanced Smart Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking and Lane Departure Warnings make the Cadenza one of the safest vehicles on the road. In addition, the 2017 model also utilizes a high strength steel reinforced body structure, which offers excellent durability.
